Things aren't always easy living away from home, but when I watch little snippets like this I am reminded that my adopted country has so much to offer!
I love the internet. I'd be pretty lost without it. I love how I can access so much information, images, music and keep connected with so many friends. It made moving to a new country a lot easier (although I wish Bilbao was more 'online'). But I imagine I'm not the only one who can sometimes get sucked in to an endless scroll through my facebook newsfeed followed by a "what am I doing with my life?!" moment. Or when I turn on my computer to do something really important only to forget about it completely and find myself watching cute dog videos an hour later (ehm actually that never happens, I'm just talking hypothetically). I wanted to make my time spent on the internet feel worthwhile rather than worthless. This blog is one personal project that helps to keep me focused on some ideas I'd like to explore. As well, with some close friends I keep an email thread called "curating the internet" where we send each other really awesome links to articles with substance, images or videos that inspire or ideas worth pursuing (and the occasional cute dog/cat video). Most recently, I finally started a tumblr to get better access to higher quality content on the internet. So this little post is to recommend tumblr! Not that it is in need of any free advertising, maybe I'm one of the last people to get around to setting one up. But I can put my virtual hand on my virtual heart and say that now when I spend 20 minutes browsing on tumblr I feel like I get access to some really enlightening, informative or thought provoking content. Of course you choose who you follow, so choose wisely if you're not looking for another procrastination trap... or maybe you are, and in that case, go ahead.
My own personal tactics for making my computer time not lead me into a time warp where 60 minutes pass like 60 seconds is to write down exactly what I need to do before opening up my browser. This has definitely helped to keep me focused. And finally if you are going to wile away some time online, I recommend the following websites that have some really good content. Maybe you can share yours!
